Evaluation of Performance of Rainfed lowland Rice Cultivars of Southern Karnataka in Two Diverse Environments

Rainfed local accessions collected from different parts of southern Karnataka were evaluated in two locations under naturally occurring low-moisture and managed stress. While, one location was typical rainfed lowland and a farmer's field, the other was dryland with stress induced during vegetative stage Variability and performance for yield and related traits of these lines were evaluated in replicated trails. There was enough evidence that these lines, evolved in narrow geographical niche have sufficient variability in them and were also stable. Correlation and path analysis revealed that straw yield and harvest index were important in both conditions, whereas, panicle number and panicle length were important in stress. Lines such as BUDDA and TK 107 A having good stability and yield can be promising for these regions. Many of the'lines identified here can also serve as parents to combine high grain yield with drought resistance.
