Steel Castings Pty Ltd (SCPL) is one of the largestprivately owned ferrous and alloy foundries in Australia. Locatedin Port Melbourne, Vicroria, SCPL produces high integritycastings in a wide range of carbon and alloy steels includingmaraging, precipitation hardening, austenitic, super-austenitic andduplex stainless steels.Steel castings between 20 to 5,000 kg are produced by a number ofprocesses. The Ceramic (Shaw) process is used to produce closetolerance near-nett shape parts to 500 kg, while Nickel and Cobaltbased alloy castings are produced by conventional sand and Shawprocesses up to 1, 000 kgs. High and low alloy forging ingots areproduced in two sizes, 2400 kg x 460 mm square and 5,000 kg x 600 mm square.SCPL has a strong technical base indluding a thchnology sharingagreement with Rauma Materials Technology Oy of Tampere,Finland. This allows a wide choice of materials and services tocustomers in the ofshore oil and gas industry. SCPL's stable highlyskilled workforce takes pride in their ability to produce complexand difficult castings for critical applications. The worldwidecustomer base includes: major international producers of pumps,valves, mooring and control equipment for the petrochemical andoffshore oil and gas industries; and manufacturers of critical partsfor the defence, power generation, gearing, steel sugar, paper,mining and general engineering industries.According to SCPL's Managing Director, Jim West, "Thecombination of workforce skills and experience, metals technologyand flexible plant and processes allows us to satisfy a significantnumber of niche markets that exist by virue of their exceptionalrequirements for integrity, availability, specialised materials ordegree of difficulty in any combination.
