A field experiment was conducted at the Agricultural Research Station, Arasikere, Hassan during kharif 1998 and 1999 to study the dry matter production, nutrient uptake and economics of sesamum under different organic manures and fertilizer levels. Uptake of NPK by the plant was higher with the application of neemcake (23.50, 5.06 and 23.98 kg NPK ha~(-1)) followed by FYM and composted coir pith. The same treatment also recorded higher seed (557.50 kg ha~(-1)) and stalk (20.79 q ha~(-1)) yield besides the higher net returns (Rs. 10371 ha~(-1)) and benefit cost ratio (Rs. 2.55). Among the fertilizer levels, 100 per cent recommended dose produced higher dry matter, with higher uptake of 25.04 kg N, 5.57 kg P and 23.73 kg K ha~(-1) from the soil. The interaction effects show non-significant response.
