Growth and Yield of Sesamum (Sesamum indicum L.) as Influenced by Intercropping and Fertilizer Levels

A field experiment was conducted at the Agricultural Research Station, Arasikere during kharif seasons of 1998 and 1999 to study the effect of cropping system and fertilizer levels on growth and yield of sesamum. Sole crop of sesamum recorded significantly higher seed yield (565.93 kg ha~(-1)) over the intercropping systems. Among the different cropping systems, the sesamum + pigeon pea (3:1) treatment recorded least sed yield (412.43 kg ha~(-1)). Application of 100 percent Recommended dose of fertilizer for both main and intercrops recorded significantly higher growth and yield parameters over other fertilizer levels. The lower growth and yield parameters were observed with application of 50 per cent recommended dose of fertilizer for both main and intercrops than the other fertilizer levels.
