Growth and yield of sunflower as influenced by trickle irrigation schedules and methods of planting

Effect of drip irrigation levels viz., drip at 0.5, 0.6, 0.8 Epan and weekly surface irrigation at 0.8 Epan and methods of planting viz., normal (60 X 30 cm) and paired rows (45-90-45 X 30 cm) on growth and yield of sunflower was studied at the MainResearch Station, Hebbal, Bangalore during summer season of 1999. The results of the investigation revealed that all the growth and yield parameters were hindered at higher level of drip (at 0.8 Epan) and weekly surface irrigation at 0.8 Epan. Drip irrigation at 0.6 Epan recorded significantly higher seed yield (35.84 q ha~(-1)) over other levels, but it was on par with drip at 0.5 Epan (35.25 q ha~(-1)). Normal planting (60 X 30 cm) recorded significantly higher growth, viz., plant height (140.5 em),LAI (2.37). LAD (43.92 days), total dry matter (227.6 g) and yield components viz., head diameter (19.58 cm), number of seeds per head (1633) and test weight (6.83 g) with the productivity of 35.17 q ha~(-1) over paired row planting (3168 q ha~(-1)).
