Extreme metabolic alkalosis: Excessive alkali intake due to ulcerative disease

A 40-year-old man was referred to our intensive care unit for alteration of consciousness. Admission examination found a confused and agitated patient accounting for a Glasgow Coma Scale of 12. Except recent episodes of vomiting, neither significant medical history nor chronic medication was declared. Haemodynamic and respiratory statuses were stable, and there was no fever.
