Synthesis of PbWO_4 Nano- and Microcrystals with Different Morphologies

PbWO_4 nano- and microcrystals with different morphologies of dot-shape, congregate particle, rod, and fishbone were synthesized successfully. Reaction condition, such as concentration of surfactant, was found to have close relation with the morphologies of final products. PEG200 was used for the dispersant in the synthesis of PbWO_4 samples. PbWO_4 nanocrystals were dispersed through the formation of Pb--O chemical bond. The concentration of PEG200 has an important influence on morphologies of PbWO_4 samples. We achieved PbWO_4 microcrystals with morphologies of rod and fishbone when the concentration of PEG200 was changed. The possible formation mechanism of PbWO_4 crystals was proposed. When excited at 245 nm, PbWO_4 samples exhibit emission spectra comprising different luminescent bands.
