These studies emphasize the tumour suppressive roles of NF-kB as a master regulator of a secretory phe-notype during chemotherapy-induced senescence in vivo, particularly in tumours in which apoptotic pathways are blocked. These findings indicate that the development of NF-kB inhibitors as potential anticancer agents should be carefully directed to those cancers in which the tumour suppressive functions of NF-kB are outweighed by verified NF-kB oncogenic functions.
