As the projected fastest-growing fossil fuel through 2030, natural gas is viewed as the "bridge" source to a more sustainable energy future. Combusted gas emits 30 percent less carbon dioxide (CO2) than oil and 45 percent less than coal and has lower levels of nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, and particulate matter.
