Hunger can enhance one's sense of smell and thereby increase food Intake; however, the mechanisms underlying this phenomenon are incompletely understood. Marsicano and colleagues now show that, in mice, endocannabinoid signalling decreases the excitatory drive from the olfactory cortex to the main olfactory bulb (MOB), increasing the detection of food odours and, consequently, enhancingfood intake after fasting.
