Crystalline beta-Ga_2O_3 nanorods have been prepared from GaCl_3 and humid SBA-15 microparticles (SMP) at low temperature (280-300 deg C) using the solvothermal method. The as-synthesized product was characterized by x-ray powder diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and room-temperature photoluminescence (PL), Formation mechanisms related to the beta-Ga_2O_3 nanorods on SMP are suggested. The room-temperature PL spectrum of the beta-Ga_2O_3 nanorods shows a strong blue luminescence (BL) band centred at 400 nm, which is ascribed to be the recombination of surface states.
