Heritability estimates of sink and source characters by F2 and F5 correlation in rice

The heritability of source sink characters was estimated by regression coefficient between F2 and F5 in two crosses of IR 66738-118-1-2/Gayabyeo and the Ilpumbyeo/YR 15965 Acp 33 rice. Most of the sink and source characters in Ilpumbyeo/YR 15965 Acp33 cross showed high heritability ( > 0.224). On the other hand, specific leaf area and source sink ratio exhibited low heritability (0.009 and 0.013, respectively). The heritability of all source sink characters in IR 66738-118-1-2/Gayabyeo cross ranged from 0.115 to 0.247. The correlation coefficient between yield and yield components in both combinations ranged from 0.001 to 0.247. Yield components were not significant. Correlations between the yield and source sink characters in both combinations were also highly significant. The correlation between the grain rifling ratio and most of the source sink characters in IR 66738-118-1-2/Gayabyeo cross were not significant. In Ilpumbyeo/YR 15965 Acp 33 cross, correlations between grain filling ratio andsource characters were positively significant, while sink characters (sink capacity and source sink ratio, etc.) were negatively significant.
