摘要

The government is not keen on removing 1% excise duty on jewellery, the finance ministry has said. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley proposed a 1% excise duty on non-silver jewellery which led jewellers to go on a pan-India strike. While jewellers in certain parts of the country called off the strike after about a fortnight, others kept their shutters down for 45 days. The strike is expected to have caused losses worth thousands of crores.
