A new black soybean cultivar, 'Ilpumgeumjeong 2' with good seed quality and high yield.

Ilpumgeumjeong 2, a new black seed coated soyabean cultivar, was developed in Korea Republic in 2005. Ilpumgeumjeong 2 was selected from the cross between cultivars Milyang 68 and Suwon 178. The preliminary, advanced and regional yield trials for the evaluation and selection of this line (Milyang 140) were carried out from 2001 to 2005. Ilpumgeumjeong 2 has a determinate growth habit, purple flowers, tawny pubescence, brown pods, black seed coat, yellow cotyledon, spherical seeds, oval leaves, middle-large seed size (25.0 grams per 100 seeds), and maturity that is 4 days later than the control cultivar Ilpumgeumjeong. The cultivar recorded higher sucrose contents (4.70%) and seed coat anthocyanin contents (15.3 mg/g) compared to the control cultivar and was suitable for cooking with rice. It also has been identified to have resistance to the Soybean mosaic virus mosaic (SMV). The average yield of Ilpumgeumjeong 2 was 2.62 t/ha in the regional yield trials (RYT) carried out in 7 locations in Korea Republic from 2003-05, which was 7% higher than that of the control cultivar, Ilpumgeumjeong..
