Lessons learnt shape future drought management

A group of forward thinking Victorian farmers are recording their drought management practices — what has worked and what hasn't — to form part of a drought handbook designed to help producers during future dry times. Seymour Wool Marketing Group was formed 15 years ago when members from north-east and central Victoria decided to work together and cooperatively market their wool. But after severe droughts affected the region several times during the past 15 years, members shifted their focus away from marketing to working together to become more resilient in the face of drought. In the face of a three year drought which started during 2006, members began reaching for the small booklet they produced recording how they faced the challenge of the 2002 drought.
