It pays to equip or retrofit closed-loop control processes with innovative technologies based on Artificial Intelligence, as proven by the modernised Vallourec & Mannesmann Tubes steel plant in Bous near Saarbrucken. The Simelt NEC systemdeveloped by Siemens has been optimising the melting down process in the electric arc furnace for a year now. Thanks to the use of this intelligent system, which combines a mathematical model of the furnace with a self-learning neural network, energyconsumption has also been reduced by two percent and production has been increased by around five percent.
