MOTOR greeted Subaru's first wholesale revamp of the WEX back in September 2000 with a story headlined 'Oh my god!', which opened with the words "Arrrrgh. Hold on to your lunch..." Old Bug-Eye, as it will forever be known, is to car design what Michael Jackson is to plastic surgery. Blame familiarity, hindsight, or whatever, but seven years on, the MY01/02 WEX has aged gracefully, particularly the fat-guarded sedan which predates Subaru's obsession with plastic boy-racerisms. Ol' Bug-Eye is now ripe for the used-car performance picking.
