Peter Johansson is not a fashionable man. And nor does he work for a fashionable car company. Johansson's employer, Saab, has spent the last two decades in a mess and it's a miracle that it's still alive. But Johansson has the heritage of Saab embedded in his genes. His grandfather was one of the engineers who developed and built the original two-stroke Saab 92 and 96 models alongside aeroplanes, aero engines and even railway systems. His dad, Svigard, is engineering royalty in Sweden; he developed the core of the first Haldex clutch and differential units, the central hardware of many all-wheel-drive systems the world over. It's fitting, then, that Peter Johansson - the boy with Saab in his blood, who began racing them in his teens - had the job of taking both Saab and Haldex to new levels.
