Additives are complementary ingredients which are designed to modify or improve a product's properties without noticeably impacting its chemical structure. Nearly all commercial plastic resins are blended with additives before or during processing into their final configurations.Some of the most common additivesare stabilizers. These are designed to minimize the thermal oxidation and other reactions the polymer is subjectto during processing. Others, such as plasticizers, perform a lubricating function within the plastic resin and make it more flexible. In addition to the major functional groups, there are also additives that are specifically used to modify the surface of the plastic film. These include slip agents, which when added to the polymer, bleed to the outer surface and prevent bags from sticking together, and anti-block agents which migrate, after extrusion, to the inside of the bag and increase the ease by which bags are opened.
