During my 33 years of experience in the mushroom industry I have physically worked at 10 mushroom farms around the United States and United Kingdom. Then, since I started my consultation and advice business in 1992,1 have been associated to one degreeor another with more than 50 operations. These many years spent working with a wide variety of operations has given me a unique perspective on the organizational characteristics of farms as well as many of the pitfalls that beset any mushroom operation. Given the variety of operations I have worked on, one thing is in common, they are humanly run and humanly managed. Therein lies some of the challenge.
