Valued at 8 million dollars and involving 100,000 tonnes of worn asphalt being removed from the A38 main commuter route between Plymouth and Exeter in Devon, the contract won by Tarmac/Roadstone Recycling for the Highways Agency had more than the usual political stresses and strains. The reason is that 70,000 tonnes of planings needed to be removed, recycled and re-laid as a foam-mix base in the Highways Agency's biggest investment to date in recycled roads. The project ends March 2006.
