PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: an autofocusing device capable of focusing easily; an imaging device; a projector autofocusing system; a projector; and an autofocusing method for the projector. PSOLUTION: The imaging device 1 includes: an imaging lens 11 receiving incoming luminous flux; a driving motor 17 moving the imaging lens 11 along the direction of optical axis; an imaging part 12 imaging the luminous flux passing through the imaging lens 11; a detection circuit 15 detecting the maximum value of luminance of the image taken in the imaging part 12; and a focus control circuit 16 controlling the driving motor 17 to move the imaging lens 11 along the direction of optical axis, determining that the condition in which the maximum value of luminance detected by the detection circuit 15 becomes the greatest value is a focused condition, and controlling to stop moving of the imaging lens 11 when it is determined that the condition is the focused condition.
