The vesicular monoamine transporter, type 2 (VMAT2) is expressed by insulin producing beta cells and was evaluated as a biomarker of beta cell mass (BCM) by positron emission tomography (PET) with [F-18]fluoropropyl-dihydrotetrabenazine ([F-18]FP-(+)-DTBZ).
