Experimental results have shown that with careful consideration of design parameters it is possible to design an SPMS employing planar energy transfer for both power and data. Such a system is well suited to sensor applications, as stated in Table 2. Some of the key design parameters have been identified. Experiments were conducted on coils that measured about 85×55mm. However, further work is required to reduce the overall coil size and implement power-efficient communication algorithms. It is anticipated that current SPMS research relating to the general concept of a self-powered wireless sensor system is an area due to expand significantly in the near future.
