A customer that produces equipment in the consumer industrial industry had one major priority: reduce assembly time to reach the market quickly. The solution was a converted casting design produced by Signicast Corp., Hartford, Wis. The customer contacted Signicast about a year and a half ago with a consumer industrial connection tube they wanted to convert to metalcasting from sheet metal fabrication. The part is approximately 6.5 X 8 in. with wall thickness ranging from 0.08 to 0.12 in. The top surface of the part has two studs, and the side of the down tube has a cast vacuum-barb fitting. On the flange are cast hooks with a mating part and a 0.147-in. diameter hole used with self-tapping hardware to secure the matting component. All of the flange surfaces are flat enough to allow the use of minimal thickness gaskets.
