BC deal lowers generic drug prices and increases reimbursement to pharmacy

Pharmacy stakeholders and the provincial government in British Columbia have reached an agreement to cut generic drug prices, while increasing dispensing fees and providing more direct support for pharmacy services.On July 9,2010, BC Health Services Minister Kevin Falcon announced his government had signed the Pharmacy Services Agreement with the British Columbia Pharmacy Association (BCPhA) and the Canadian Association of Chain Drug Stores (CACDS).Under the deal, generic drug prices will be reduced over a 3-year period from 65% of the brand-name price to 35%. The benefit pricing will be the same, whether covered by PharmaCare or private plans, or paid for by individuals.
