An example of successful European cooperation: Leading edge technology for the international travel industry

In all its forms, on land, at sea, or in the air; traffic is becoming more dense as a result of improved travel conditions and fierce competition. The travel industry is therefore increasingly dependent on leading edge technology. Airlines were,in fact, the first to build high volume computer systems, and the first to feel the need for distribution systems on an international scale. These 'Global Distribution Systems' or GDSs, today serve large markets, and handle high volumes of informationfrom many different sources. One of the youngest and most modern GDSs, Amadeus is the most advanced from a technological viewpoint. Since its founding in 1987, Amadeus has become one of the most powerful and extensive global distribution systems in theworld, amply fulfilling the ambitions of its founders and its many partners.
