MM Vestas increases offshore visibility with its 8 MW offering

Vestas has been involved in the commercialisation of offshore wind since the beginning, but largely due to technical issues early on leading to low turbine reliability (not least at the pioneering Horns Rev offshore wind farm), it has seen Siemens take a dominant role in the market. According to EWEA statistics for European offshore wind, Siemens had an 86.2% market share in 2014 in terms of annual new MW installed and 65.2% in terms of cumulative installed MW to date, compared with 9.5% (annual) and 20.5% (cumulative) for MHI Vestas.
