Next-gen coal technologies for sustainable development

Hoal-based power consumption has become a crucial element in India's energy sector. As India's appetite for energy & power continues to rise, coal will have a very important role to play for at least next few decades. Still, there are a number of challenges confronting the sector, and there are several constraints that will affect its trajectory. According to Mr. D. N. Prasad, Adviser (Projects), Ministry of Coal, India's coal production is envisaged to grow at 8.05 per cent during the 12th Five-year Plan as against an actual growth of 4.61 per cent in the 11th Plan. "Enhancement of production is possible through technology development and innovation," he says.
