The previous fiscal has been an eventful one for Tata Steel. The all-round progress that the company has achieved, puts it in a vantage position for the coming fiscal, in the domestic (as well as global) marketplace. In the death centenary year of Jamshetji Tat (which also happens to be the birth centenary year of JRD Tata), this growth is a kind of a homaage paid to the men who fashioned the Tata Iron and Steel Company. Indian steel major Tata Steel, popularly known as Tisco, has reported an excellent performance during fiscal 2003-04, The company completed the financial year on a buoyant note as it surpassed all expectations and established new records across all fronts. For the first time in the history of Tata Steel, the company produced 4.09 million tons of saleable steel for the year ended March 31, 2004. This marked an increase of 3.8 percent over the production during the previous year. Similarly, it achieved a production of 4.22 million tons of crude steel last year, 3 percent higher than the production in the previous year.
