Leading coatings and specialty products manufacturer, PPG Industries, has opened a 5 million US dollars research and development centre in Shanghai's neighbouring city of Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. The R&D centre, established to tap into the fastdeveloping Chinese chemical market, will focus on researching environmentally friendly coatings. In May, the company commenced construction on its eighth paint manufacturing plant in Wuhu, Anhui Province. Last year, PPG's sales rose 60 percent in China and 45 percent in the Asia-Pacific region.
