Petmin Somkhele mine

Somkhele has further increased its yield with the commissioning in Quarter 1 2013 of a third plant to produce an energy product from discard. It has the capacity to produce 720 000 tonnes of anthracite from run-of-mine material, or 480 000 tonnes of energy product. Current mining operations at Somkhele cover about 10% of the 23 000 hectares on which Petmin has prospecting rights. Mining licence applications for the remaining areas are expected to be submitted in 2013.
