"The issue of conflict diamonds is of great importance to the diamond producing countries whose economic health and stability is critically dependant on their diamond income, and the future prosperity and livelihood of everyone in the legitimate international diamond industry depends on how quickly the issue is resolved," managing director of De Beers, Gary Ralfe, told delegates at the recent World Diamond Congress in Antwerp.
