EUROPEAN UNION IMPORT AND EXPORT DATA FOR 1st HALF 2014

In the first half of 2014 the whole of the coffee market has been engulfed by speculation regarding the lack of rain in Brazil. The upswing in futures prices began in the last quarter of 2013 but really caught fire in the period under review here. With the ICE Arabica contract basically doubling in value to near 220 cents per lb and the ICE Robusta contract closing in on $2,150 per tonne before a pullback was seen there has really has been just one game in town.So how has all this volatility affected the European Union physical coffee market? We now have the FOL figures for first half 2014 so let us have a look at what has been happening as the futures markets have been having their fun.
