World coffee futures have recovered somewhat in the period under review. The arabica market remains under the influence of uncertainty over the potential drought damage to Brazil's 2014/15 (Apr/Mar) crop and dealings are still volatile as a clear picture may only emerge in late July or early August. Front-month arabica futures on ICE added just above 50% in the first half of 2014, but have come down from the most-recent peak of $2.19/lb reached in late April. The nearby July arabica contract rose 6.25 cents, or 3.7%, between June 18 and June 30 to 173.00 cents/lb, while the benchmark September contract added 5.25 cents to end at 175.10 cents/lb.Robusta futures in London also advanced, although gains were smaller than those in arabica futures. The front-month July contract gained $24 to close at $1,998 per tonne on June 30. The most-actively traded September contract settled at $2,016 a tonne, up $34 since June 18. Front-month robusta futures have recorded gains of 23% in the first half of the year.
