Intellectual Property P2P or not P2P; That is the Question?

Evidently, some music lovers have been known to share songs on P2P networks without the consent of the copyright holder. Film buffs have, according to the film industry, been known to do something similar. Who would have guessed it? Some surveys have suggested that individuals who share music online are in fact greater purchasers of music than those who do not; and, as I write this, the UK final of X-Factor is in full spate and many music lovers feel that the creative integrity of music is being hijacked by the power of major corporations. Indeed, there are several ongoing campaigns to have some song other than the X-Factor winner be the Christmas No.1 (in the same way as Rage Against the Machine became an unexpected winner last year). On social networks such as Twitter, campaigns are ongoing for Help for Heroes and for Aberlour Child Care Trust with X-Factor Star Gamu. Are we now seeing a paradigm shift in how music is promoted?
