Designed as a 'one size fits all' standardised replacement vehicle, the Schwerer Wehrmachtschlepper (Heavy Military Tractor) sWS was produced to replace both the Sd.Kfz 251 series and the numerous other prime movers and self-propelled anti-aircraft halftracks in service with the Wehrmacht during WWII. The sWS was produced in three basic types: armoured and unarmoured load carriers, a mobile weapons platform capable of mounting 20 mm and 37 mm anti-aircraft guns, or the 10-barreled 15 cm Nebelwerfer rocket launcher to replace the existing Maultier based vehicle. With a total of only 825 sWSs being produced between Bussing-NAG and Tatra, production of the sWS was never going to meet demand for this vehicle on the eastern front (for which it was developed), let alone being able to equip the units fighting the Allies in the west. The kit contains some 14 sprues that supply the majority of the kit including the 136 individual track-links. To compliment the injection-moulded plastic parts, two frets of photo-etched brass parts make up the spent shell basket and the mesh panels for the drop-down side panels.
