I began to work at a spot low on the drift wall, where lots of stiff brown clay was exposed-possibly the residue of a disintegrated pocket. I diligently gouged out great gobs of sticky clay with my gad and screwdriver, and pried-out some chunks of feldspar, but with diminishing energy and enthusiasm. After further empty efforts proved my pessimism to be warranted, I packed up my tools and found my way out. Hoping our short stay wouldn't disappoint the hospitable, helpful Roberto-we left, and were soon back in Linopolis, having coffee with Kinka.
