Most collectors and dealers are aware of the phrases "conflict diamonds" or "blood diamonds" as summary terms for the mining and/or selling of the gemstone to fund wars, insurrections and other activities that have led to genocide, enslavement and other anti-humanitarian results. The Kimberley Process was initiated in order to stem the flow of such goods across international borders, and its effects have trickled down to the mineral collecting and dealer communities as well, so that the buying and selling of even a single rough diamond can cany an added bureaucratic andlegal burden for those involved in the transaction.
