DOT Proposes New Requirements For Entry-Level Driver Training

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has released a new proposal for entry-level driver training requirements, reports the National Propane Gas Association (NPGA). The requirements would apply to all new Class A and Class B commercial driver license (CDL) applicants, anyone wishing to upgrade their CDL, and CDL holders seeking a hazardous materials endorsement. Compliance with the new requirements would begin three years after publication of the final rule. DOT also proposes requirements for driver-training providers, which encompasses in-house training provided by motor carriers as well as training by institutions such as community colleges.
