Authorised Testing Facilities: Reporting on the rise of the Authorised Testing Facility (ATF) and the advantages they can bring to operators

January saw the 400th Authorised Testing Facility (ATF) officially open for business just four years after the first one began welcoming customers, an anniversary celebrated by Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency Chief Executive Officer, Alastair Peoples (inset). The DVSA has been created by the merger of the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency and the Driving Standards Agency Now handling almost 72% of all truck, bus and coach MOT testing, for the most part run by private firms and working under a contract with the DVSA, ATFs are steadily replacing the agency's own network of wholly-owned test centres. The latter have been subjected to a closure programme that has seen the total fall from just over 100 to 24, plus 14 that offer a part-time testing service.
