摘要

It was 1969, more than a quarter century ago, when Colorado Mining Association members S.P. "Pi" Warren, E.M. '13, and CM. "Lindy" Barker, E.M. '31, conceived the idea to provide for elementary and secondary school teachers a brief summer course where they could gain working knowledge about minerals and mining, and where we in industry could provide for them positive and factual information which can be passed on to young people in our schools. Pi Warren and Lindy Barker sought and won support from the Colorado School of Mines in the form of teaching facilities and certification for continuing education credit for teachers. They also enlisted the Colorado Mining Association, winning financial support and volunteer help from CMA member companies and from individual members. More than 50 volunteers work diligently on each year's program, serving as expert faculty, and helping plan and organize field trips to augment the classroom work. Numerous companies underwrite mine and plant visits to reinforce the learning experience.
