摘要

As Colorado School of Mines prepares for the next century, it is examining trends and issues that may impact student retention and student life in the years ahead. These topics were discussed at the Board of Trustees Annual Conference held June 13-15 in Aspen Park, Colo. The conference examined demographic changes among CSM students, the impact of financial aid programs and opportunities, academic culture and academic advising, and student services. More than 90 faculty members (including department and division heads), administrators, students and trustees discussed topics and exchanged ideas relevant to these areas. Among the topics discussed were ways to increase retention of students. The present retention rate, those who enter Mines as freshmen and who complete a degree, is between 60 and 65 percent. Under the direction of Bill Young, assistant vice president and director of enrollment management at CSM, eight sub-committees have been formed with the mission of evaluating and recommending programs to raise the retention rates at CSM.
