摘要

The following steels were hot galvanized for analysis: low silicon steel, sandelin, sebisty and high silicon steel, of which the last three were in killed condition. The various phases, gamma , delta sub 1 , zeta and eta , are shown in photomicrographs accompanied by appropriate explanations. Also discussed are iron-zinc layers formed on the steel surface during the galvanizing process. The physical, chemical and electromechanical properties of these layers or phases are discussed. Separate chapters are devoted to the discussion of the iron content of the hard zinc crystals ( zeta -phase), the iron content on the surface of the zinc coating, the phase interface of steel and zinc coating and the microhardness distribution throughout the zinc layer. It is reported that microhardness tends to diminish from inside to outside. Most zinc layers increase linearly with immersion time up to 15 minutes except for steel with 0.17% Si, where the sebisty effect was noted.
