A fleet of five Hitachi EH4500-2 dump trucks supplied to Thiess for the Mt Owen contract have been fitted with a noise attenuation package to meet demanding environmental conditions imposed by the New South Wales Government. Noise attenuation is not new to Hitachi dump trucks. The company fitted its first Australian system in 2000 to a fleet of EH4500 trucks for the Bengalla coal mine. The system fitted to the Mt Owen trucks has been designed and manufactured in Brisbane by Hitachi Mining in association with mechanical consulting engineers Chaseling McGiffin.
