DRILLBITS WAS RECENTLY asked why mining journalists didn't try to be more like proxy brokers and analyse companies in their articles rather than just write stories based on what they have been told by relevant people who, presumably, have some kind of authority. The answer was easy- despite their penchant for sanctimonious pontification and producing self-opinionated copy, scribes don't really know much about anything. And, as they say, a little information can sometimes be dangerous. A harsh analysis perhaps, butthis conclusion becomes alarmingly apparent after examining some of the evidence.
