Price hikes hit aspiring producers

Far East Capital Ltd's Warwick Grigor used some of his time at the Sydney podium to reflect upon some of the fficulties currently facing Australia's aspiring gold producers. Grigor -- who was speaking on behalf of Tianshan Goldfields Ltd -- pointed out that many smaller gold projects which had recently been put on the backburner due to the "failure linked to the rates of return in their feasibility studies" (like Tanami Gold NL with Coyote, Westonia Mines Ltd with its namesake play and View Resources Ltd with Bronzewing) had suffered from the significant rise in operating costs that had affected the whole mining sector. It would not, he said, be unreasonable to be talking about a 20-25 percent hike.
