If the Kevin Rudd-led Federal Labor Government was serious about having the proceeds of the next minerals boom provide a social dividend to all Australians, it should ensure that the "appalling abuses" of the Native Title Act be stopped. According to outspoken Western Australian-based newspaper columnist Paul Murray, the native title system is being rorted to the benefit of a few and is not delivering social uplift to most WA aborigines.
