摘要

The Obama administration's Aug. 9 announcement of greenhouse gas emissions standards for heavy-duty trucks is a flawed, one-size-fits-all rule, said the Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA). The new rule ignores input from small-business trucking, overlooks less expensive options to achieve EPA goals of reduced emissions, and will ultimately increase new truck costs, the association comments. The new fuel standards for heavy-duty vehicles are the first efficiency rules for such engines in the U.S. Semitrailers will have to decrease fuel consumption and emissions by 23% for model years 2014 to 2018, and other types of trucks will have to make cuts as well. An administration official said the standards will help the country reduce fuel consumption by 530 million barrels.
