The bullish factors in the aluminium market are firstly the power-related cutbacks in China that are being made ahead of the year-end as local governments have to meet their energy efficiency targets – these could amount to some 500,000 tonnes in Q4. Secondly, metal is still being tied up in financing deals and that continues to reduce availability in the open market, keeping premiums steady in the process.
